| Wheelbuilding This is the most important place to save weight as you have to accelerate your rims around as well as forwards. Hand built wheels transmit your effort better and provide better strength and stiffness. It's an upgrade that will repay itself quickly in terms of the improvement to ride quality. The spokes are laced into the chosen hub and rim before the real work begins. While the wheel is being built, four variables (lateral truth, vertical truth, dishing and spoke tension) are checked continually to ensure a high quality wheel is the end result. It takes time and skill to do properly, but a wheel built in this way bears little relation to the wheels supplied with most bikes, which are assembled by machines to minimize costs to the manufacturers. We can build whatever pattern you want, with a range of components to suit your budget and your needs. Also consider fitting disc brakes for ultimate braking performance. |
